Rexahn Pharmaceuticals to Present Data on Novel Anti-Cancer Small Molecule RX-3117 at AACR 103rd Annual Meeting

ROCKVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Rexahn Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NYSE Amex: RNN), a clinical stage pharmaceutical company commercializing potential best in class oncology and CNS therapeutics, today announced that it will present new pre-clinical data on its oncology compound RX-3117 during a poster session at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 103rd Annual Meeting being held in Chicago, Illinois, March 31 - April 4, 2012, at the McCormick Place Convention Center.

The Company will present data on the metabolism and mechanism of action of RX-3117 in a poster (abstract #1770) entitled, “Metabolism and mechanism of action of fluorocyclopentenylcytosine (RX-3117),” on Monday, April 2, 2012, during the “Experimental and Molecular Therapeutics 10” poster session from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm EDT in Exhibit Hall F, Poster Section 28.

In September 2009, Rexahn entered into a commercialization and development agreement with Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Limited for RX-3117. Under the agreement, Rexahn is eligible to receive development, regulatory and sales milestone payments, as well as royalties on net sales worldwide.

RX-3117 is a small molecule, new chemical entity (NCE), nucleoside compound that inhibits DNA methyltransferase, a cyclin-dependent kinase, and DNA synthesis. Potential indications of RX-3117 are solid tumors including colon, lung and pancreatic cancers. RX-3117 has demonstrated its ability to overcome cancer drug resistance in cancer cells, in particular, gemcitabine-resistance in the human lung cancer cell.
